Further to the announcement on 27 March 2014 of the retirement

Astral Foods, the board has appointed Dr. Theuns Eloff as the
new chairman with effect from 1 June 2014.

Dr. Eloff (59), until recently the Vice-Chancellor of North-
West University, completed his studies at Potchefstroom
University (now North-West University). He started his career
as a minister of religion in Pretoria and left the ministry in
1989 to join the Consultative Business Movement (CBM), where he
was appointed as Executive Director in 1990. During his time
with CBM he was seconded to both CODESA (1991-2) as Head of
Process and Secretariat Services, and the Multi-Party
Negotiations Process (1993) where he was Head of
Administration, until the negotiated Interim Constitution was
adopted.

In 1995 Dr. Eloff was appointed as Chief Executive of the
National Business Initiative. He served on the Economic
Advisory Council of the North-West Province, the Board of
Business Against Crime and the Board of the Centre for Conflict
Resolution.

In 2002 he became Vice-Chancellor of the Potchefstroom
University for Christian Higher Education. In 2004 he was
appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the newly merged North-West
University. He is past deputy chairman and chairman of Higher
Education South Africa (HESA) and the Association of
Commonwealth Universities (ACU). He also served as vice-
president and president of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut
(AHI) from 2009 to 2012.

Dr. Eloff has been an independent non-executive director on the
board of Astral Foods since May 2007, and during this time
served on the Audit and Risk Management Committee and chaired
the Social and Ethics Committee.
He is also the chairman of the Dagbreek Trust, deputy chairman
of the FW de Klerk Foundation, and will join the board of Open
Learning Holdings on 1 July.
