Reference to Barclays Plc Interim Management Statement BARCLAYS AFRICA GROUP LIMITED (Formerly known as Absa Group Limited) (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration number: 1986/003934/06) ISIN: ZAE000174124 JSE share code: BGA (“Barclays Africa Group” or “the Group”) REFERENCE TO BARCLAYS PLC INTERIM MANAGEMENT STATEMENT Barclays Africa Group shareholders are advised that Barclays PLC released its first quarter 2014 results today. Although Barclays PLC makes no substantial reference to Barclays Africa Group's financial performance, it disclosed an Africa Retail and Business Banking (RBB) segment, which includes part of Barclays Africa Group’s activities. Certain continuing trends were noted for Africa RBB in the first quarter, including an improved net interest margin that was largely due to higher South African interest rates, and significantly lower mortgage credit impairments. However, shareholders are advised not to infer Barclays Africa Group's overall performance from this disclosure. Barclays PLC's Africa RBB results exclude Corporate and Investment Banking plus Card, which contribute a sizeable portion of the Group's earnings. It also includes the impact of consolidation and overlay adjustments, Rand depreciation, accounting policy differences and certain operations that are not part of Barclays Africa Group.
