APPOINTMENT OF TWO NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS TO THE BOARD OF
PICK N PAY

Pick n Pay Chairman, Gareth Ackerman, announced today that board has been
extensively reviewed to ensure that its composition maintains a balance of skill
and experience. Having recently appointed an experienced international retailer,
John Gildersleeve, the Chairman is delighted to advise that the board has now
appointed two new non-executive directors, Audrey Mothupi and David
Friedland, with an effective date of 13 December 2013.

Audrey Mothupi is the Chief Executive Officer of Systemic Logic Group. Prior to
this, she was the head of inclusive banking at Standard Bank, where the division
she led was awarded the 2013 BAI-Finacle Global Banking Innovation Award for
innovation in societal and community impact. Audrey has experience in banking,
insurance, group strategy, human resources, marketing, communications and
corporate affairs.

Audrey serves as a trustee of the Liberty Education Foundation, is the Chair of
Orange Babies of South Africa, and is a Fellow of the African Leadership
Initiative as part of the Aspen Leadership Network. Pick n Pay welcomes her as
an independent non-executive director.

David Friedland, a Chartered Accountant (SA), has enjoyed a long association
with Pick n Pay as an external auditor, having been the Company’s audit
engagement partner with KPMG until 2007, after which time he maintained
contact with the Pick n Pay Group in his capacity as lead partner.

David resigned from KPMG on 28 February 2013 to take up an appointment to
the board of Investec Limited and Investec PLC, where he serves as Chairman of
the Investec Global Audit Committee. David is a non-executive director of The
Foschini Group Limited, and acts as a trustee and protector of five charitable
trusts and foundations.

Given his past relationship with Pick n Pay, David will not initially be considered
to be an independent non-executive director.
