Fatal incident at Kroondal

It is with great regret and sadness that Aquarius advises that the body of a female employee was
found underground at Kroondal Platinum Mine’s Kwezi Shaft in the early hours of this morning, 9
October 2013.

The employee’s name is being withheld out of respect for her family. The Board and management of
Aquarius extend to them their deepest condolences.

Blasting activities at Kwezi shaft have been suspended to facilitate the South African Police Services'
(SAPS) forensic investigation, which has already begun. While the circumstances of the incident
cannot be disclosed, it was apparent during the initial investigation that the woman may have been
assaulted.

Aquarius deplores any incidence of violence. The company will work closely with the SAPS, the
Department of Mineral Resources, and employee representatives to support her family and in the
course of the investigation.
