Protech Khuthele awarded contracts for R350 million Protech Khuthele Holdings Limited (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration No.2000/024352/06) Share Code: PKH ISIN: ZAE 000101986 ("Protech Khuthele" or "the Company" or “the Group”) PROTECH KHUTHELE BAGS THREE CONTRACTS TO THE TUNE OF R350 MILLION In the past three months, Protech Khuthele, the JSE-listed civil engineering and construction-related services Group, has been awarded three contracts comprising roads, construction and waterworks totalling R 350million. Chief Executive Officer of Protech Khuthele Antony Page said, “The implementation of the Group’s strategic turnaround is progressing well and we are beginning to see the fruits of everyone’s efforts. To this end, we are pleased to add these contracts to our order book which now amounts to R1,0 billion.” Two waterworks contracts have been awarded to Protech Khuthele by Exxaro Resources Limited to the value of R65 million. The projects include a stormwater channel and a waste water treatment works at Grootegeluk Mine in Lephalale. The waste water treatment project calls for the construction of a water retaining reinforced concrete reservoir of about 22m x 40m x 6m in height, together with the pipework, valves, pumps and process plant and equipment which will process the waste water from the existing coal plant. Besides the reinforced concrete construction of the walls and roof structure, Protech Khuthele is required to project manage specialist subcontractors for the installation of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment and construct a small control building. The stormwater channel project entails a 700m concrete lined channel as well as a 750m precast culvert. Page said, “The waste water treatment project marks the entry of Protech Khuthele into the civils and concrete sector. We anticipate that the stormwater channel which commenced in June 2013 as well as the waste water treatment project will both be completed by March 2014.” The largest contract worth R285 million has been awarded by the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport. The contract involves the construction of a new section of the R82 road between Walkerville and Eikenhof, south of Johannesburg. The scope of work entails a 4.3km new dual carriageway and 2.2 km new single carriageway to double up on an existing section of roadway. A total of 170 000m2 of asphalt surfaced roadway will be constructed, including 6 000m of kerbing and over 5 500m of stormwater drainage pipes and culverts of varying sizes. A new dual carriageway intersection will be constructed with street lighting provided at the carriageway intersection to increase safety on the road. “As part of our upliftment and communities programme, we will be maximising the use of local resources, including skilled and unskilled men, women and people with disabilities. We will be providing training and opportunities for growth and development for both people and emerging businesses in the surrounding communities,” concludes Page.
