Anglo American appoints Hennie Faul as CEO of its Copper business

Anglo American plc (“Anglo American”) announces the appointment of Mr Hennie Faul as CEO
of its Copper business following John MacKenzie’s decision to leave to pursue other
opportunities outside Anglo American. Hennie Faul, currently Anglo American’s Group Head of
Mining, will report to Duncan Wanblad, CEO of the Base Metals and Minerals business, with
effect from October 2013.

Duncan Wanblad, Anglo American’s CEO of Base Metals and Minerals, said: “Hennie Faul
brings 26 years of deep technical and operational experience to our Copper business. Hennie
has shown strong leadership during his nine years with Anglo American – across our former
zinc businesses and as Group Head of Mining for the last 2½ years. I look forward to working
with Hennie as we continue to improve the performance of our high quality copper assets to
their full potential.”

Hennie Faul commented: “I am delighted to be taking up my new role as CEO of Copper and I
look forward to working with the team to drive the ongoing performance turnaround and
improvement from our copper assets. I have greatly enjoyed the technical challenges of the last
few years working across Anglo American’s commodity businesses as the Group Head of
Mining and now will bring my experience across the mining value chain to Copper.”

Mark Cutifani, Chief Executive of Anglo American, said: “I congratulate Hennie Faul on his
appointment to head the Copper business and I expect his leadership and breadth of expertise
will enable us to achieve sustainably higher returns from our competitively positioned assets. I
would like to thank John MacKenzie for his 24 years of hard work and dedication to Anglo
American, the last four of which as CEO of Copper. John has worked across many of our
commodity businesses around the world and most recently overseen the successful
construction, commissioning and ramp up of the expansion at Los Bronces, and the recent
processing improvements at Collahuasi. Amongst other achievements he also led the
discussions around the innovative Quellaveco Dialogue table in Peru. We wish him well for the
next stage of his career.”
