DIRECTOR APPOINTMENT

Standard Bank Group and The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited are pleased to
announce the appointment of Peter David Sullivan as a non-executive director to their
boards with effect from 15 January 2013.

Mr Sullivan (64) is an Australian living in the United Kingdom. He has extensive experience
in banking having held various executive positions, including that of Chief Executive Officer
of Standard Chartered Bank, Africa and Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of
Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, prior to retiring. He currently serves as a
director on the boards of Healthcare Locums Plc, Techtronic Industries Limited, J P Morgan
Indian Investment Trust Limited, The Bankers Investment Trust Plc, AXA China Region and
AXA Asia.
