UPDATE ON UNPROTECTED INDUSTRIAL ACTION

The Company advises that it has sought and obtained a court interdict under section 158 of the Labour
Relations Act (the “Act”) following the unprotected industrial action that began at the Blyvooruitzicht Mine
yesterday, 1 October 2012.

In line with the Act, the Company may issue an ultimatum to striking employees depending upon the
outcome of a mass meeting held at the operation today. The Company has sought to engage with
employee representatives to avoid the inevitable dismissals should this process take its course.
