DIVIDEND DISTRIBUTION ANNOUNCEMENT IN RELATION TO THE BIL SHARE INSTALMENT

Notice is hereby given of the dividend amount payable for BHP BILLITON PLC and that as a result of
the dividend declaration relating to BHP BILLITON PLC (BIL) the Trustees of the Share Instalment
Trust have declared a dividend amount of 481.1484 cents per BILNNE share instalment that is
payable on Friday, 28 September 2012. The dividend is subject to a local tax of 15 per cent. No STC
credits were utilized. This results in a net dividend of 408.97614 cents per share instalment. The final
payment will be rounded to two decimal places.

The last day to trade cum-dividend is Friday, 31 August 2012. The Share Instalment will commence
trading ex-dividend from Monday, 03 September 2012. The record date will be Friday, 07 September
2012.
