KUMBA IRON ORE ANNOUNCES THE RESIGNATION OF CHRIS GRIFFITH
AND THE APPOINTMENT OF NORMAN MBAZIMA AS CEO AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE COMPANY
The board of Kumba Iron Ore Limited ('Kumba') announces
the resignation of Chris Griffith and the appointment of
Norman Mbazima as CEO and executive director of the Company, effective 1 September 2012, following the
appointment of Chris Griffith as CEO of Anglo American Platinum Limited.
Mr Mbazima has been CEO of Anglo American's Thermal Coal
business since 2009 and was previously the CEO of Scaw
Metals and joint acting CEO and CFO of the Platinum business.
Allen Morgan, Chairman of Kumba Iron Ore, said: 'I am
delighted to welcome Norman Mbazima to Kumba at this
exciting stage in the Company's strategic journey. Norman
brings a wealth of experience across a number of mining
businesses, from copper and platinum to coal. Norman has an intimate knowledge of the South African mining
landscape and of our key logistics partners and this will
help him build on the great success at Kumba led by Chris
Griffith. I would like to thank Chris for his impeccable
leadership over the last four years and wish him all the
very best as he takes on his next challenge at Anglo American Platinum.'
Norman Mbazima said: 'Kumba is a South African success
story and I look forward to continuing to drive the
Company's growth strategy for the benefit of all its
stakeholders. I have thoroughly enjoyed my three years at
the helm of Anglo American's Thermal Coal business. I am
particularly proud of the contribution we have made to
securing South Africa's electricity needs, through our
successful collaboration with Eskom. I wish Godfrey, the
executive team and all the employees of the Thermal Coal business every success.'
Chris Griffith said: 'It has been a great privilege to have served as Kumba's CEO and I have enjoyed the
experience enormously. Together, as the Kumba team, we
have achieved many milestones and have set up South
Africa's largest iron ore producer for the next stage in
its growth journey. I know that the Kumba team will
support Norman the way they have supported me, and I wish him and the Kumba team well for the future.' Centurion 19 July 2012 Sponsor
