NFSH40 - Newfunds Shariah Top 40 Index ETF - Distribution Announcement - Period Ended 31 March 2012 NEWFUNDS SHARIAH TOP 40 INDEX ETF Share code: NFSH40 ISIN: ZAE000130431 (the "ETF") A Portfolio in the NewFunds Collective Investment Scheme in Securities registered as such in terms of the Collective Investment Schemes Control Act, 45 of 2002 DISTRIBUTION ANNOUNCEMENT - PERIOD ENDED 31 March 2012 Further to the announcement released on SENS on 8 March 2012, holders of ETF securities are advised that there will be a distribution for the period 31 March 2012 of 2 cents per ETF security. The distribution is comprised entirely of local dividends. The distribution will be paid on Wednesday, 2 May 2012 to all holders recorded on the register on Friday, 30 March 2012. There has been a delay in making the announcement which was expected to have been made by 23 April 2012 in order to allow the issuer to obtain clarity on whether Dividends Withholding Tax, effective 1 April 2012, would be applicable to distributions paid after 1 April 2012. SARS has confirmed that since dividends declared prior to 1 April were subject to Secondary Tax on Companies in the hands of the companies declaring them, the distribution (part thereof comprising dividends) to investors for the period prior to 1 April 2012, is not subject to dividends tax. Holders of Shariah ETF securities ("investors") are advised that the appropriate purification of dividends, through the donation of 5% of the dividends to charity, needs to be effected by each investor.
