Due to the nature of Alert Steel`s current financial position, the              
company has embarked on a policy of issuing quarterly trading updates           
for the 2012 financial year, this being the first, in order to provide          
investors with timely insight into high-level financial performance             
trends.

headline loss of R1 544 255 (2010: R25 309 185 loss) and a weighted             
average number of shares of 248 428 570 (2009: 248 428 570).                    
The financial information on which this voluntary trading update is             
based has been prepared in accordance with International Financial              
Reporting Standards and has not been reviewed or reported on by the             
company`s auditors.                                                             
Shareholders are advised that per paragraph 3.4(b) of the JSE Limited           
Listings Requirements the company will not be required to release               
trading statements during the 2012 financial year as a result of the            
company adopting quarterly reporting.
