Dennis retired from the company on 28 April 2011 after thirty-four years of loyal and devoted service to Pick n Pay. As Pick n Pay Chairman, Gareth Ackerman, said: "We will miss his humour, wisdom and experience, and his prodigious appetite for hard work. We wish him all the best in his well- deserved retirement and extend heartfelt thanks to him for all that he has done for the Group." Bakar is a Chartered Accountant, and has been with the Group for twenty-six years. He was appointed a divisional director in 1993 and has served on the Retail Management Board since its formation in 1995. He has been involved in various projects for the Group both locally and internationally. In May 2010 it was announced that Bakar was the chosen successor to Dennis. "We are delighted with the depth of ability in the finance department of Pick n Pay, and that our succession planning has been so successful," said Pick n Pay Chief Executive Officer, Nick Badminton. "While we will miss Dennis`s invaluable contribution to every aspect of our business, Bakar`s appointment is well deserved on ability, experience and hard work. Bakar and Dennis have worked closely together during the past year, and we are confident that a seamless handover has been achieved. We know that Bakar will maintain the high standards of integrity and professional expertise that we enjoyed with Dennis."
