DSY - Discovery Holdings Limited - Trading statement DISCOVERY HOLDINGS LIMITED (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration number: 1999/007789/06) ISIN: ZAE000022331 Share Code: DSY ("Discovery" or "the Company") TRADING STATEMENT Discovery is currently finalising its results for the year ended 30 June 2009, which will be released on 2 September 2009. Headline earnings per share is expected to be between 25% and 35% higher than the corresponding reporting period of the previous year. Realised profits on available-for-sale investments net of capital gains tax (CGT) are approximately R168 million lower than previous years. In addition, Discovery has recorded an impairment of R82 million net of CGT against its available-for-sale investments. Both these items have been excluded from headline earnings per share but are included in earnings per share. As a result, earnings per share is expected to be between 0% and 10% higher than the corresponding reporting period of the previous year. The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not been reviewed and reported on by the Company`s auditors.
