PPC - Pretoria Portland Cement Company Limited - PPC announces first production from new Batsweledi kiln line Pretoria Portland Cement Company Limited (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Company registration number: 1892/000667/06) JSE Code: PPC ISIN: ZAE000096475 ("PPC" or "the company") PPC announces first production from new Batsweledi kiln line PPC advises that the new 1.25m ton per annum kiln at Dwaalboom was fired up last weekend and has successfully produced its first product this week. The company also notes that the project is within the R1.4 billion budget. "The hard work in settling this state of the art process down to achieve consistent availability and maximum output now begins" said John Gomersall the CEO. "We must commend our whole PPC team involved with the project and all the contractors and their teams, on their hard work and especially on the incredible safety record achieved during the 36 month construction period. At the peak we had almost 1 500 contract personnel on site in addition to our normal Dwaalboom team of about 300 people. Over the 3 years only 7 minor injuries were incurred and there were no fatalities. This must be a record for major mining and manufacturing projects in South Africa," he added. PPC will advise shareholders of the impact of the new capacity on the coming financial year in its prospects and outlook statement when announcing its results early in November 2008. The company notes that it is currently in a closed period.
