SKJ - Sekunjalo Investments Limited - Media Release SEKUNJALO INVESTMENTS LIMITED (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration number: 1996/006093/06) ISIN: ZAE000017893 Share Code: SKJ ("Sekunjalo") 9 November 2007 SEKUNJALO HOSTED BY PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OF THE WESTERN CAPE (PGWC) AT GALA DINNER TO CELEBRATE ITS RECOGNITION BY WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM (WEF) AS A NEW CHAMPION GLOBAL GROWTH COMPANY Premier Ebrahim Rasool, delivering the keynote address at a gala dinner hosted last night by the Provincial Government of the Western Cape (PGWC) in honour of Sekunjalo Investments Ltd, said that he was extremely excited that the Western Cape-based company had been included in the World Economic Forum`s Top 125 list of Global Growth Companies (GGC) and challenged other companies to ensure that they were also included on the list in the future. Speaking at the gala dinner, which was attended by a number of leading Cape- based CEO`s, business and community leaders, Rasool said that "it is a major achievement for our province and South Africa that Sekunjalo, who have operations in the UK and Mauritius, have achieved this very special accolade. It dispels the current notion of Afro-pessimism and is testimony to the significant achievements of this company which is about more than just profits." Rasool said that the company had pioneered a new ethical compass which did not only compromise profits and economic viability but flew the flag for ethical conduct in business. He said that their success had proven that a simple definition of empowerment, which sought to shift resources from high concentrations to lower concentrations and that would bring societal equilibrium, had been created. Sekunjalo Investments Ltd CEO, Mo Kajee spoke about the significance of the achievement for Sekunjalo from the World Economic Forum. Kajee said "with this recognition, the WEF has acknowledged that Sekunjalo has embedded a culture of leadership at all levels into the heart and DNA of the organization. The selection followed a meticulous process and was based on a number of factors, including the business model, growth record and the quality of the executive leadership of the selected companies." Head of Africa at the World Economic Forum, Haiko Alfeld, addressed the gathering and spoke about the shift in the economic power balance in the world and how the recognition of the "New Champions" reflected this shift, as new drivers of global growth. This shift was occurring at a time when power relations and the mindset of prominent traditional international institutions did not reflect it. He said that "the "New Champions" reflect vision and innovation and want to have an increased say in world affairs and are increasingly in a position to challenge the status quo, which I welcome." Lawrence Khoza, representing Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) congratulated Sekunjalo and said that this recognition was extremely significant for black business. He said "this honour debunks the myth that multi- nationals are synonymous with the West. It indicates that black business can operate at a global level and that it is important that more black companies take up this challenge."
