MSM - Massmart Holdings Limited - Sales Update MASSMART HOLDINGS LIMITED (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration number: 1940/014066/06) Share Code: MSM ISIN Code: ZAE000029534 ("Massmart" or "the Company") Sales Update Included in the Massmart annual financial statements released today is the following paragraph: "For the 14 weeks to 30 September 2007, total Group sales grew 12,5% with comparable store sales growth of 10,7%. While the fundamental economic environment is healthy, inflationary pressures remain. Combined, high real wage increases, rising food inflation, high oil prices and widespread capacity constraints run the risk of introducing secondary inflation. This could herald a sustained period of CPIX outside of the Reserve Bank`s target range with resultant higher interest rates." "Notwithstanding the possibility of tighter monetary policy, the outlook for growth looks good. Over and above the opportunities the economy provides, we are doing things that will improve Massmart`s competitiveness that should produce relatively superior growth of shareholder value." Another sales update will be provided at the annual general meeting on Wednesday, 21 November 2007.
