TIER II NOTES ISSUE BY SBSA                                                     
The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited ("SBSA") has mandated Banc of America 
Securities and Standard New York Securities to act as placement agents for a    
possible Tier II capital notes issue with selected US institutions.  A roadshow 
to introduce the transaction to potential investors to assess demand commences  
on 5 June 2007.
