MTN TRADING STATEMENT                                                           
In terms of Section 3.4 (b) (Trading Statements) of the Listings Requirements of
the JSE Limited ("the JSE Listings Requirements"), issuers are required to      
publish a trading statement as soon as they are satisfied that a reasonable     
degree of certainty exists that the earnings for the period to be reported upon 
next will differ by at least 20% from those of the previous corresponding       
period. Due to the change in financial year end from 31 March to 31 December,   
resulting in a 9 month period to 31 December 2005, this trading statement does  
not strictly conform to the JSE Listing Requirements as there is no previous    
comparable 12 month reporting period.                                           
For completeness, for the 9 month period ended 31 December 2005 the Basic       
Headline Earnings per Share was 359.8c, Adjusted Headline Earnings per Share was
338.2c and Attributable Earnings per Share was 352.7c.                          
MTN is currently finalising its audited financial results for the 12 month      
period ended 31 December 2006, expected to be released on the morning of 29     
March 2007.                                                                     
Shareholders are advised that MTN expects Basic Headline Earnings per Share will
be between 591.4c and 621.7c while Adjusted Headline Earnings per Share will be 
between 567.4c and 596.5c for the 12 month period ended 31 December 2006.       
Attributable Earnings per Share for the 12 month period ended 31 December 2006  
are expected to be between 590.3c and 620.5c.                                   
This trading statement has neither been reviewed nor reported on by MTN`s       
external auditors.
