TRADING UPDATE                                                                  
The Directors of Bell are pleased to report that as a result of favourable      
trading conditions the marked improvement in profitability as was evident in    
the mid year results announcement published on SENS on 4 August 2006 has been   
maintained in the quarter ended 30 September 2006. The results for the nine     
months to 30 September 2006 which have not been audited nor reviewed by the     
external auditors reflect an after tax profit of R187,4 million which           
translates into earnings of 198 cents per share and headline earnings of 198    
cents per share. This announcement should not be seen as a precedent for        
quarterly trading statements in the future.
