     FURTHER TRADING UPDATE                                                     
     Shareholders are referred to the trading update released on SENS on Monday,
17 July 2006, and are advised that Shoprite will be reporting on a 52 week 
     period compared to the 53 week period reported on in the prior year. Due to
     an exceptional profit of a capital nature of approximately R150 million as 
     a result of the sale of a property portfolio, shareholders are advised that
earnings per share will be 35% to 45% higher than those of the prior       
     comparative period.                                                        
     The above financial information has not been reviewed and reported on by   
     Shoprite"s auditors. The abovementioned results are expected to be released
on or about Wednesday, 23 August 2006.
