In accordance with Section 198-202 of the UK Companies Act 1985, Lonmin Plc was 
notified on 17 March 2006 by The Capital Group Companies, Inc ("CGC"), on behalf
of its affiliates, including Capital Research and Management Company, Capital   
Guardian Trust Company, Capital International Inc, and Capital International    
Limited ("the Companies") that as at 16 March 2006 they have a notifiable       
interest in 4,980,152 ordinary shares of US$1 each of the Company representing  
3.49% of the issued share capital.                                              
The interest in the relevant share capital of Lonmin arises by virtue of        
holdings attributed to the Companies.  These holdings form part of funds managed
on behalf of investment clients by the Companies.
