Solly Tucker (69), has retired as chairman of The York Timber Organisation      
Limited (Yorkcor) with immediate effect.                                        
Tucker, who has been associated with the company since 1960, was born and bred  
in Pretoria and was educated at Pretoria Boys High School before taking a law   
degree at the University of Pretoria.  He was then awarded a Commonwealth       
Exhibition to Cambridge where he gained MA and LL.M degrees, having been awarded
a double first in his qualifying examinations. He is a member of Gray"s Inn     
London. In 1962 Tucker was admitted as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of South
Africa but has not practised as such. He has been a commercial member of the    
Special Income Tax Court for several years.                                     
Apart from being the public face of Yorkcor for over 40 years, Solly Tucker     
enjoys a high standing in industry circles.  He is a past chairman of the       
Institute of Directors in Southern Africa, and has served on the executive      
committees of Pretoria"s Chamber of Commerce and the South African Lumber       
Millers" Association.                                                           
Tucker is succeeded by Dr MJC ("Tienie") van Vuuren as non-executive chairman.  
Dr van Vuuren has been a director of Yorkcor since 2003 and has served the      
company over two periods, together totaling 15 years. Ivor Tucker, Lance Cooper,
John Lehman and "Poenkie" de Villies will continue to make up Yorkcor"s top     
executive team in their respective capacities as group managing director, chief 
operating officer, financial director and business liaison director.
