SALES UPDATE FOR THE QUARTER ENDED 5 JANUARY 2006                               
Lewis" strategic merchandise sourcing initiatives combined with the favourable  
retail trading environment have ensured another highly successful quarter.      
Merchandise sales for the quarter ended 5 January 2006 increased by 17% as      
compared to the corresponding quarter last year, with like-for-like merchandise 
sales growth of 14%.                                                            
Furniture sales which contributed approximately 50% of total sales experienced  
no price inflation.  Electrical goods price deflation was 10%.                  
All divisions traded well with new store openings and the merchandise           
initiatives contributing to these results.
