PUBLICATION OF CIRCULAR AND WITHDRAWAL OF CAUTIONARY                            
Shareholders are referred to the further cautionary announcement dated 31 August
2005, relating to the disposal of Acme Stores (Pty) Ltd by Labat ("Retail       
Disposal"). Shareholders are advised that the circular setting out, inter alia, 
details of the Retail Disposal was posted to Labat shareholders on Friday, 23   
September 2005 and the general meeting convened for 10h00 on Monday, 10 October 
2005 for the purpose of considering and, if deemed fit, passing the ordinary    
resolutions required to implement the Retail Disposal. Accordingly, the         
cautionary announcement has now been withdrawn.
