Joe Shibambo has been appointed as an independant non-executive director of PPC. Shibambo has been involved in construction since 1979, where he gained invaluable knowledge in building construction, construction management, property development and the implementation of BEE Development Programmes. Shibambo is the Managing Director of Hlamalane Projects, a company established in 1995. Through his organisation, Shibambo helps historically disadvantaged individuals (HDIs) in the basic management principles of starting a business and the effective management thereof. He assists in the development of joint venture partnerships and negotiates with various entities on their behalf. He was the first black residential township developer and independent contractor to build a shopping centre, both of which were based in Soweto. He is also a Financial Committee member of the Construction Charter Transformation Group. "We are extremely excited to have Joe join our Board. Not only does he bring a new element of thinking and approach to our business, but he will be a valued member of the team contributing to our success in the future," said John Gomersall, chief executive officer of PPC. Orrie Fenn, formerly Managing Director of the PPC Cement division, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of the PPC Group. Fenn has been part of the PPC group for the past 6 years. "Orrie"s vision is in line with our goals to be a leader in the cement industry and a company devoted to building the nation. It was an obvious progression for him to be appointed as Chief Operating Officer of the Group. We believe that he will continue to challenge and improve our operational performance at all levels in the years to come," said Gomersall. In addition, the Board approved the appointment of Salim Abdul Kader as a full director to the PPC Board as Director of Operational Performance. This follows the resignation of Rod Burn from the Board, on transfer to the Barloworld Motor Division. "Salim has taken over responsibility for the next important phase of our Kambuku journey of creating a globally competitive team. He has brought a new energy to the PPC environment and his enthusiasm and commitment should help us reach new heights," concluded Gomersall. These appointments are effective immediately.
