Board Appointment                                                               
Standard Bank Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Mamphela       
Ramphele to the boards of Standard Bank Group and The Standard Bank of South    
Africa Limited with effect from 17 March 2005.                                  
Dr Ramphele (MB.Ch.B, PhD, Social Anthropology) was previously a Managing       
Director at the World Bank and Vice Chancellor at the University of Cape Town.  
She currently serves as Chairperson on the board of Circle Capital Ventures and 
is a trustee on the Nelson Mandela Children"s Trust, the Nelson Mandela         
Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Mellon Foundation and the African   
Wild Life Foundation.
