The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited ("SBSA") has mandated Standard Bank   
Corporate and Investment Banking to lead manage a Tier III capital bond issue of
approximately R600 million. A roadshow to invite investors to participate in the
planned bond issue will take place in the near future.                          
This bond is being issued in order to refinance Tier III capital of R1 billion  
(SBK4) which matures on 15 February 2005.                                       
Application has been made to list the bond on the Bond Exchange of South Africa.
