ACQUISITION OF ADDITIONAL SHARES IN DISCOVERY HOLDINGS LIMITED                  
Shareholders are referred to the announcement published by Discovery Holdings   
Limited ("Discovery") on SENS on 1 December 2004 relating to the sale of        
Discovery shares by Adrian Gore, the Chief Executive Officer of Discovery and   
Barry Swartzberg, the Managing Director of Discovery Health.                    
FirstRand has acquired, in terms of a pre-emptive right, 4 881 739 Discovery    
shares from Adrian Gore and Barry Swartzberg who will utilise the proceeds of   
the sale of these shares to reduce personal debt incurred for the purpose of    
following their rights at the time of Discovery"s capital raising exercise in   
2003 and to reduce other debt that they have.
