Trading Statement                                                               
In terms of the Listings Requirements of the JSE Securities Exchange South      
Africa ("JSE Listings Requirements"), shareholders are advised that Labat"s     
basic/headline earnings per share ("EPS") for the half-year ended 31 August 2004
is expected to reduce between 5.0 and 6.5 cents per share, compared to the EPS  
for the half year ended 31 August 2003 which was 0.6 cents per share.           
Shareholders attention is drawn to the fact that the financial information on   
which this trading statement has been based has not been reviewed or reported on
by the Company"s auditors in accordance with paragraph 3.4 (b)(vi)(1)(aa) or    
3.4(b)(vi)(1)(bb) of the JSE Listings Requirements.
