TRADING STATEMENT                                                               
Shareholders are advised that headline earnings per share for the year ending 30
September 2004 are expected to be between 15% and 25% lower than the headline   
earnings per share for the previous year.                                       
The expectation of reduced earnings is mainly as a result of the continued      
strength of the Rand which affected the profitability of Oceana"s export        
businesses and a lower contribution from the canned fish business.              
The forecast financial information on which this Trading Statement is based has 
not been reviewed and/or reported on by the company"s auditors.
