NOTIFIABLE INTEREST IN SHARES                                                   
Lonmin Plc has today been notified by Threadneedle Asset Management Limited, on 
behalf of American Express Company and its Group, of a notifiable interest in   
17,010,842 ordinary shares of US$1 each of the Company (equating to 12.01% of   
the issued share capital) in accordance with Section 198 (as amended) of the    
Companies Act 1985.                                                             
Threadneedle is interested in the shares comprised in this notification by      
virtue of its role as a fund manager, and the holding includes shares           
beneficially owned by members of the American Express and Zurich Financial      
Services Groups.
