Announcement                                                                    
Lonmin Plc announced today the outbreak of an unofficial or `wildcat" strike at 
shaft three of its Karee Mine in South Africa.  The strike, which is over       
disciplinary matters and has not been sanctioned by the relevant trade union, is
not at this stage expected to have a significant effect on production.  The     
company and the unions are working together to resolve this situation as rapidly
as possible.
