SANLAM APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN AND DIRECTORS                                      
Sanlam announces the appointment of Mr Roy Andersen as an independent director  
on the Board of Sanlam Limited with effect from 3 June 2004. Mr Andersen was    
also elected as non-executive chairman of the Board of Sanlam Limited from      
3 June 2004 to succeed Mr Ton Vosloo who retired on 2 June 2004.                
Mr Andersen was former CEO of Liberty Group Limited and he is non-executive     
chairman of Murray and Roberts Holdings Limited and of Virgin Active.           
The Sanlam Board also decided to increase the number of directors from 16 to 18 
to further strengthen and diversify the Board and announces the appointment of  
Ms Maria Ramos and Mr Valli Moosa as independent directors on the Board of      
Sanlam Limited from 3 June 2004.                                                
Ms Ramos was the former Director General of the National Treasury and is the    
current Group CEO of Transnet. She is a non-executive director of the Financial 
Markets Advisory Board and a director on the Board of the Development Bank of   
Southern Africa.                                                                
Mr Moosa was the former national minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism  
and he is currently developing his own business interests.

held on 2 June 2004:
