NAMPAK LIMITED - TRADING STATEMENT AND CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT Nampak Limited (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration number 1968/008070/06) JSE Share code: NPK ISIN: ZAE000004933 ("Nampak" or "the Company") TRADING STATEMENT AND CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT In terms of the Listings Requirements of the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa ("JSE Listings Requirements"), companies are required to publish a trading statement as soon as they become aware that the financial results for the period to be reported upon next will be materially different from that of the previous corresponding period. Nampak is currently finalising its results for the 6 month period ended 31 March 2004, which are expected to be released on 21 May 2004. Nampak advises that, in terms of the JSE Listing Requirements, it is not required to issue a trading statement in respect of headline earnings for the 6 month period ended 31 March 2004 as it expects this result to be within 10% of the headline earnings for the 6 month period ended 31 March 2003. However, having realised a capital profit of approximately R200m on the sale of Nampak"s shareholding in NamITech, attributable earnings for the 6 month period ended 31 March 2004 will be substantially above attributable earnings for the 6 month period ended 31 March 2003. In terms of the JSE Listings Requirements, "substantially" is defined as an increase or decrease of more than 30%. CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT The above information has not been reviewed or reported on by the Company"s auditors. Shareholders are therefore advised to exercise caution when dealing in the Company"s securities until the publication of the Company"s results for the 6 months ended 31 March 2004.
