DIVIDEND DECLARATION                                                            
The Board declared a dividend of 40 cents per share payable on 19 May 2004 to   
shareholders recorded in the register on 23 April 2004.  This represents an     
increase of 8% over the 37 cents per share dividend declared in respect of 2002.
To allow for the dividend calculation, Sanlam"s share register (including       
Sanlam"s two nominee companies namely Sanlam Share Account (Pty) Ltd and Sanlam 
Fundshares Nominee (Pty) Ltd) will be closed for all transfers, off market      
transactions and dematerialisations or rematerialisations from 13 April 2004 to 
23 April 2004, both dates included.                                             
The last date of trade to qualify for this dividend will be 16 April 2004 and   
shares will trade ex div from 19 April 2004.                                    
This announcement confirms the relevant dates as reflected in the group results 
published on SENS on 4 March 2004. The record date was erroneously reflected as 
16 April 2004 and not 23 April 2004 in the voluntary newspaper announcements on 
5 March 2004.
