NEW CEMENT MD AND BOARD APPOINTMENT AT PPC                                      
Barloworld Limited subsidiary, PPC today announced that Dr Orrie Fenn, has been 
promoted to managing director of PPC Cement with effect from 1 March 2004, and  
was appointed to the PPC Board on Friday 5 March 2004.                          
Fenn"s appointment follows the recently announced appointment of PPC chief      
operating officer and Cement managing director, John Blackbeard as CEO designate
of Barloworld Scientific. Blackbeard will take up his new position with effect  
from 1 July 2004.                                                               
PPC"s chief executive officer, John Gomersall said, "Over the past five years,  
Orrie has achieved outstanding results and this coupled with his extensive      
experience in the cement industry makes him the ideal person to lead the PPC    
Cement team."                                                                   
Fenn has a doctorate in Engineering, and joined PPC Cement early in 1999 as     
assistant to John Blackbeard, then technical and operations director of PPC     
Cement. During this time, Fenn led the global technical benchmarking of PPC     
Cement"s facilities and the setting of stretch targets for each operation.      
Following John Blackbeard"s appointment as managing director of PPC Cement later
in 1999, Fenn was appointed operations director, giving him responsibility for  
all the cement factories and quarries in the South African PPC Cement stable. In
this role he reduced production costs by R80-million over a four-year period. He
also championed the implementation of PPC"s internal value based management     
initiative, Kambuku throughout PPC Cement"s operations. This was key in the     
factories being honed to the point where today, most of the plants run at or    
above world best practise levels.                                               
In 2002 he was appointed sales and marketing director of PPC Cement. "We moved  
Orrie into sales and marketing to both utilise his skills and management        
approach to streamline and optimise performance within sales and marketing and  
to develop his all-round experience." said Gomersall. Amongst other initiatives 
during his tenure in sales and marketing, Fenn has been responsible for         
successfully implementing the ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001(Environmental)   
practices, a first for cement companies in South Africa. In addition, he made a 
contribution to the bottom line by reducing working capital to record levels and
further reducing sales and marketing costs.

leadership, PPC Cement will continue to grow from strength to strength,"
