Further to the Shoprite reviewed preliminary results for the year ended 30 June 
2003, shareholders are advised that the annual financial statements will be     
dispatched to shareholders on or about 30 September 2003 and contain no         
modifications to the reviewed preliminary results which were published on 19    
August 2003.                                                                    
The reviewed preliminary results of Shoprite as referred to above and the annual
financial statements were audited by Shoprite"s auditors, Pricewaterhousecoopers
Inc. Their report is available for inspection at the Company"s registered       
office.                                                                         
Notice of the annual general meeting                                            
Notice is hereby given that the Shoprite annual general meeting of Shoprite     
shareholders will be held at Corner of William Dabs and Old Paarl Roads,        
Brackenfell on Tuesday, 28 October 2003 at 09h15 to transact businesses as      
stated on the notice of the annual general meeting forming part of the annual   
financial statements.
