The board of FirstRand has accepted the resignation of Mr Sathandranath         
Ragunanan "Mac" Maharaj as a director and an employee of the FirstRand Group and
as a director of seven subsidiary boards on which he serves.  The resignation of
Mr Maharaj will be effective 31 August 2003.
