SANLAM APPOINTS CEO OF EMPLOYEE BENEFITS                                        
The Board of Sanlam Life has announced the appointment of Themba Gamedze (44) as
Chief Executive of the company"s employee benefits division in the life         
assurance cluster.                                                              
Gamedze, a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Actuarial   
Society of South Africa currently holds the position of Executive: Special      
Projects and Empowerment at the Liberty Group.  He takes up his new position    
with Sanlam employee benefits on 1 September 2003 and will be based in          
Johannesburg.                                                                   
His appointment follows Sanlam"s announcement in May this year that the group   
would be restructured to improve operational focus and delivery.  Dr Johan van  
Zyl, Sanlam"s CEO, then indicated that employee benefits, as a major growth area
in the Group"s life business, would be refocused, with its own identity,        
deliverables and a dedicated leader to drive performance.
