Roy Andersen has informed the boards of Liberty Group Holdings and Liberty Group
Limited that he wishes to proceed on early retirement. As a consequence of this,
he will be resigning from the board of Standard Bank Group on 31 May 2003. He   
will also resign from the board of The Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd with   
effect from the same day.                                                       
The board would like to thank Roy for his valued contribution to the group.
