("Netcare") has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary TraumaNet (Pty) Ltd ("TraumaNet") has, with effect July 19, 2002, purchased the interests held by Europ Assistance in Trauma-Link (Pty) Ltd. ("Trauma Link") and NetAir 911 Aeromedical Services (Pty) Ltd. ("NetAir 911"), amounting to 25% and 50% respectively. The owner of the Netcare 911 trademark, Trauma Link was established in 1998 and is currently ranked as Africa`s largest private pre-hospital risk management and medical assistance provider network. The company offers fully integrated pre- hospital emergency medical assistance and evacuation rescue by road or air ambulances for 4.6 million insured principal lives or 10 million members. The integrated service offering is achieved via a national network of strategically placed Netcare 911 ambulance and rapid response ground mobile teams as well as a fleet of NetAir 911 fixed/rotary wing ambulance aircraft, all manned by experienced medical personnel. The network of Netcare 911 airborne services extends into West and East African countries, sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. The company also offers both emergency and non-emergency telephonic medical advisory services; medical standby services for special events; emergency medical training; and a range of value-added services (such as emergency roadside and household assistance, trauma counselling, travel insurance, HIV advisory and legal services). The Netcare 911 service is co-ordinated via a 24-hour global response centre, located in Midrand, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art CRM information technology infrastructure. Some 1500 to 1800 calls are received by the response centre each day, up to 60% of which relate to medical emergencies. In 2001, Netcare 911 responded to over 105 100 emergency cases covering 6 million patient carrying transportation kilometres.
