Kalahari.net grows in leaps and bounds Media release Kalahari.net`s annual financial results report a 102% increase as the e- tailer records R17.2 million in turnover for the year to end 31 March 2002. This is on par with recent reports from Nielsen//Netratings* that Kalahari.net now surpasses Amazon.com as South Africa`s leading online retailer and marks the second successive year that the e-tailer has recorded triple digit growth figures. Hein Pretorius, general manager, cites Kalahari`s customer-centric approach and sound business principles as the drivers behind its financial success. "At Kalahari, all business processes evolve around our customers and we are continuously striving to better our service and offer. We currently deliver 96% of purchases on time, but this financial year will see that figure increase even more." Kalahari.net`s customer base has increased 123% and the e-tailer serviced 72 255 customers as at 31 March 2002. According to Pretorius, a stringent customer acquisition and retention strategy is in place, with measures to win the trust of customers being the most important aspect. "We work closely with suppliers to push the envelope on delivery and service. It is only once customers experience true satisfaction that their visits to the site will increase as well as their spend per visit." e-Traders, Kalahari`s affiliate programme, is also reporting financial success. Just over 13% of Kalahari`s turnover is currently derived from the more than 700 partner sites that form part of the e-Trader programme. Carte Blanche, Litnet, Moneymax, WorldOnline, BMG, Nedbank Shopping, MSN, Van Schaik, icanonline banking, Cosmo Club and Touchline Media are some of its partners, with icanonline banking the best performing e-Trader at present. Pretorius concludes: "The time has come for e-tailers to take a step up and become real players in the retail market. A number of niche markets exist that have not yet been saturated by traditional retailers and these offer a supreme opportunity for e-tailers that are prepared to pull out all stops to deliver what these customers want." Kalahari.net currently offers customers a world of books, DVDs and videos, music, computerware, games and wine. -ends- About Kalahari.net Kalahari.net is harnessing the digital medium for the delivery of unequalled customer choice in the local market and already offers over million book titles, CDs, DVDs, wine and computer software and games.
