NEW DIRECTOR FOR HOWDEN AFRICA HOLDINGS LIMITED                                 
The Board of Howden Africa Holdings Limited has announced the appointment of    
John Feek as a non-executive director of the board of Howden Africa Holdings    
Limited with immediate effect.                                                  
Mr Feek is a chartered accountant with considerable experience in local and     
overseas engineering companies.                                                 
Previously he was managing director of Abercom and subsequently managing        
director of the Haggis Group until 1991.  Over the past few years he has        
been involved in strategic projects with financial institutions and a number    
of private companies.                                                           
David Gawler, the current chairman of Howden Africa Holdings Limited, will      
retire as a director of the company at the conclusion of the Annual General     
Meeting on the 27 June 2002.                                                    
It is anticipated that Mr Feek will succeed Mr Gawler as non-executive          
chairman of the company.
