Lonmin Plc was notified on 18 December 2001 by Cater Allen International
Limited ("CAIL") in accordance with Part VI of the Companies Act 1985 (as
amended) that as at 13 December 2001 CAIL had a notifiable interest in above
4 per cent of the ordinary shares of  1 each of the Company.

This holding had arisen from a stock borrowing and lending position done
under the approved Master Equity and Fixed Interest Lending Agreement as a
principal trading member of the London Stock Exchange.  Because of the
nature of the holding, declared under the Act, CAIL can state that they had
no interest or voting capability in the said ordinary shares.

On 19 December 2001 Lonmin was notified by CAIL that as at 18 December 2001
it had no reportable interest in the ordinary shares of Lonmin Plc.
