Share repurchases

Lonmin Plc ("the Company") announces that on 18 October 2001 HSBC purchased
for cancellation by the Company 411,234 of the Company's GBP1 ordinary
shares at prices between 880 pence and 900 pence per share pursuant to
instructions given by the Company to HSBC on 30 September 2001.

So far, 8,430,367 shares have been purchased since the Company commenced the
repurchase of its GBP1 ordinary shares on 17 September 2001.

The purchases were made by HSBC on behalf of the Company pursuant to the
authorisation granted at its Annual General Meeting on 15 February 2001
under Section 163 Companies Act 1985.

Further shares may be purchased by HSBC on behalf of the Company from time
to time in the market at prevailing market prices.
