Trans Hex Limited

The appointment of Calvyn Gardner as chief executive of JSE-listed Trans Hex Group will strengthen the executive team and accelerate growth says chairman Bernard van Rooyen.
Gardner (38) leaves Highveld Steel and Vanadium Corporation, where he was executive manager responsible for mining, vanadium and rolling mills, to take up his new position at Trans Hex on 1 September 2001.
"Trans Hex is moving through an exciting phase in its life cycle. Last year we posted some of the best financial results in our 36-year history and we plan to use that base as a springboard to spur on growth through additional projects and acquisitions," says van Rooyen. "The Board believes Gardner is the right person to lead the charge."
Trained as an electrical engineer, Gardner completed his Masters in Business Leadership through the University of South Africa in 1994. Other
responsibilities at Highveld Steel included time as structural mill manager and a stint as assistant general manager steel and mills.
Gardner said: "I have been impressed with the year on year growth shown by Trans Hex for the past six years. I see my role as the extraction of value from recent investments; while at the same time actively pursuing new opportunities locally and internationally."
Gardner is married with a young family and will be relocating to Cape Town in the near future. An avid believer in the principle of a fit mind in a fit body, Gardner plays golf and jogs when he can, he is adamant that quality family time is one of the cornerstones of life.
Trans Hex has been under the management of Peter Danchin, managing director: operations since the resignation of Niel Hoogenhout from the top position in March last year.
Van Rooyen adds: "The entire Board joins me in expressing our gratitude to Peter for stepping in and taking over the reins for the past 16 months. He is a leader with exceptional management skills and has implemented a number of important developments in Trans Hex."
"The Board believes the new executive team of Gardner, Danchin and Louw will be the catalyst for a significant expansion effort in the future," concludes van Rooyen.
Trans Hex is the only diamond mining company listed on the JSE Securities Exchange. The Company has land operations along the Mid and Lower Orange River with marine activities off the South African and Namibian coasts. Trans Hex produces diamonds in the upper end of the quality spectrum and has established a global reputation for producing some of the most sought-after stones. Ends.
