PETER WHARTON-HOOD APPOINTED STANDARD BANK RETAIL BANKING MANAGING DIRECTOR Peter Wharton-Hood (35) has been appointed Managing Director of Standard Bank Retail Banking. He replaces Noel Webb, who retires after almost 40 years with the bank.
Says Jacko Maree, Stanbic Chief Executive: "Peter's knowledge of finance and information technology will be invaluable as we place greater emphasis on the correct balance between physical and virtual channels. I have no doubt that he will add valuable new perspectives to Retail Banking."
Wharton-Hood joined Standard Bank in March 1997 as Director of Finance at Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank. In July 1999, he took over the bank's assurance initiative and in December 1999, was appointed Director Group Technology and e-Commerce. This function will continue to report to Wharton- Hood in his new capacity.
In paying tribute to Webb, Maree said: "Noel has been with the bank for almost 40 years and has played a critical role as Managing Director, Retail Banking, since 1995. He will be remembered for his professionalism and the dramatic improvement in Retail Banking's performance in recent years."
