APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR OF ILLOVO SUGAR LIMITED

Illovo Sugar is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Ami Ramadhan Mpungwe
as a non-executive director of the company.  Mr Mpungwe, having retired after
25 years' service in the Tanzanian Diplomatic Service, is the immediate past
Tanzanian High Commissioner to South Africa.  With considerable diplomatic
experience in Southern African affairs, he currently sits on a number of
company boards, including SAA (Chairman : Africa Region) and is a director of
the Kilombero Sugar Company in Tanzania, part of the Illovo Sugar group.  Mr
Mpungwe was recently awarded the Order of Good Hope, South Africa's highest
award given to foreign citizens, by President Thabo Mbeki, in recognition of
his "contribution to the well-being of South Africa, democracy and economic
co-operation in the region and to the close bilateral relations between
Tanzania and South Africa."
