With reference to the dividend announcement of 12 November 2001, please note
that at the request of certain nominee shareholders who are nominee holders
for non-residents of South Africa and with the agreement of the JSE

Securities Exchange South Africa and STRATE, Sappi has agreed to extend the
date by which nominee shareholders may elect on behalf of those non-

residents to receive payment of dividend no 78 in United States Dollars
rather than South African Rand. The election date has been extended from
Thursday 27th December 2001 to Friday 4 January 2002.  All other conditions
relating to the payment of the dividend remain unchanged from those set out
in the aforesaid announcement.
